Obama Welcomes the Columbus Crew to the White House
The Columbus Crew received high honors from President Barack Obama for its 2008 Major League Soccer (MLS) Championship. After a 45-minute tour of the White House, the team gathered in the Rose Garden for a ceremony where the President congratulated them on the turnaround from a losing season in 2007 to the best record in the league in 2008.
During the ceremony, the team presented the President with a signed ball, a banner, and an official gold Crew jersey, emblazoned with the Glidden™ paint logo across the front and "OBAMA 44" on the back.
"That's what I wanted," President Obama said as he held up the shirt.
The President also praised the team for its many community service projects, such as a clinic the team held for D.C. elementary school kids following the White House visit.
